Samsung announces 5 million Galaxy Note II units sold

Samsung announced Monday that it has sold 5 million Galaxy Note II units since the device’s debut this fall. According to Engadget, the company posted a release to its Korean language press center Web site on the new milestone.

The company had already announced it passed 3 million in sales earlier this month, indicating that Samsung has pushed 2 million more units of its super-sized phones in the month of November alone.

Those are pretty impressive numbers for the second Note, which has a 5.5-inch display and is the leading example of the "phablet" category that bridges phones and tablets.

The success of the Galaxy Note II and its predecessor, the Galaxy Note, may show an appetite for larger phones that also function as smaller tablets for Web-browsing, video and reading. The Note line, with its stylus is more in the vein of the personal data-assistant of old, though obviously updated for a sleeker, more connected age.
