Brain scans reveal patterns of activity which are as unique as a fingerprint, and can accurately identify individuals from a large group.
Variations in individual brain function reveal that brain imaging can be used to identify individuals in the same way as their unique fingerprints, announced neuroscientists from Yale University on Monday.
The researchers looked at brains that were scanned using functional magnetic resonance imaging [fMRI] data collected from the Human Connectome Project to study the functional organization of individuals' brains, and found differences that they were able to use to identify an individual from a group of more than 100 people.
