Lounging on the beach in the summer sunshine will put a smile on the face of many holidaymakers, and these happy seals appear to me no different to their human counterparts as they soak up the rays.
The seals were captured on camera on beaches across the globe, from the shores of the north Devon coastline, to the tiny German island of Helgoland, while some had extra cause for celebration as they were released back into the wild after spending time at a rehabilitation centre for sick animals in Finland.
Among their number are grey seals, which are Britain's largest breeding seal species, harbour seals who call the Arctic marine coastlines of the Northern Hemisphere home, and an elephant seal who can be seen sprawled out on at beach at Macquarie Island - a UNESCO World Heritage site around halfway between Australia and New Zealand.
