Azerbaijan, Italy discuss education cooperation

Azerbaijan and Italy have great prospects for cooperation in education.

The statement came from Azerbaijani Minister of Education Misir Mardanov speaking at the conference ‘Cooperation between Italy and Azerbaijan in education: current situation and prospects’.

He said that today the trade between Italy and Azerbaijan makes EUR 10m a year which actualizes cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of education.

"The current situation in the sphere of cooperation in education is not satisfactory. We are mostly cooperating within the framework of the TEMPUS program. The list of the universities where Azerbaijan sends students as part of the state program for education of students abroad includes 24 universities of Italy. However, only four people study in Italy as part of the program. We need to send at least two students to each university to bring their number to 48", Mardanov said.

He also noted that the Languages University of Azerbaijan and University of Architecture and Construction are closely cooperating with the universities of Italy.

He said that Azerbaijan plans to arrange the studies of the Italian language at secondary schools as the second foreign language.

"We are planning to hold conferences in Baku and Rome twice a year for strengthening cooperation in education", Mardanov said.
