Ferguson anxiously awaits Michael Brown ruling

At Metro Shooting supplies, Bridgeton, sales of guns are three times what they would normally be at this time of year. Bookings for the gun range are double the norm.

Its owner John Stephenson says it's down to uncertainty and fear of a return of violence over the police killing of an unarmed black teenager in August.

Jeana Moore is a typical client. She has come to buy a gun due to concerns the police won't be able to help her if rioting breaks out again.

"I'd rather be able to pull the trigger than dial 911 and hope that they get there faster than the guy gets in my window," she says.

In August violent protests erupted in nearby Ferguson after unarmed black teenager Michael Brown was killed by a police officer.

Law enforcement made matters worse with a heavy-handed overreaction as they deployed officers dressed and equipped like the military.

Since then Michael Brown's death has become a cause celebre, highlighting the high numbers of people, often African American, shot by police. In America's polarised politics Ferguson has become a hugely divisive issue.

A grand jury was empanelled to decided whether or not Darren Wilson, the police officer who killed Brown, should be indicted, that is charged and brought to trial.
