The Congress of Peru has issued an official statement congratulating Azerbaijanis around the world on the 107th anniversary of the founding of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
The Azerbaijani Embassy in Mexico told SİA that the statement highlights the historic significance of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic as the first democracy in the East—one that granted equal rights to all its citizens. It emphasizes that all religious and ethnic communities in Azerbaijan coexist peacefully.
The statement also welcomes the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty following the de-occupation of its territories, and commends Baku's efforts toward achieving lasting peace, stability, and security in the South Caucasus.
It notes that May 28 is celebrated as a national holiday by Azerbaijanis worldwide, who honor the role their ancestors played in spreading democratic values throughout the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Middle East.
Additionally, the statement underlines that Azerbaijan is considered an important partner for Peru.
