Colombia will hold presidential elections today.

Current President Ivan Duke will not be able to run in the elections. Because the president is elected for four years without the right to be re-elected.

According to the info obtained by SIA, if none of the candidates gets more than 50 percent of the vote, the second round of elections will be held on June 19.

Six candidates will compete for the highest state position. Senator Gustavo Petro, representing the left-wing Historical Pact coalition, is the favorite. According to a May 19 poll, 35.8 percent of respondents are ready to vote for him.

During the election campaign, Petro criticized some aspects of cooperation between Bogota and Washington, which officially gave Colombia the status of a key US non-NATO ally on May 23.

The candidate stressed the need to revise the agreement on free trade between the two countries, noting the ineffectiveness of their interaction in the fight against drug trafficking.

Petro's main rivals could be Federico Guterres, backed by the current government's Team for Colombia coalition, and his own nominee, Rodolfo Hernandez.
