Yerevan declassifies transcripts with statements of Ex-Head of General Staff during war

The press service of the Armenian Security Council has declassified and published excerpts from the transcripts of sessions, which confirm the words of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Onyk Gasparyan did not advise him to stop fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh at the end of September last year, SİA informs, citing Armenian media.

"In response to the statement of the former chief of the General Staff of Armenia, Gasparyan, dated November 17, 2020, the Office of the Security Council considers it necessary to make clarifications regarding the comments contained in this statement and publish declassified documents," the press service said.

The website also posted scanned sheets of three documents, where Gasparyan's comments are given. According to these transcripts, on September 30, 2020, the head of the General Staff said, "the situation has not changed tactically" and that the troops continue to perform their task.

At the end of last year, Gasparyan stated that even at the beginning of hostilities in the Karabakh conflict zone, he advised Pashinyan to stop them. However, the prime minister argued that the head of the General Staff reported to the Security Council about the army's readiness to resist.
