Guinea-Bissau President: Vulnerable countries need adequate funding to adapt

The allocation of adequate financial resources to vulnerable countries like Guinea-Bissau is a priority and necessary condition for increasing resilience and adaptation capacity, president of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, said at the COP29 Climate Leaders Summit in Baku.

"Climate change knows no borders. We must act globally and must make bold decisions and take appropriate measures. Guinea-Bissau reaffirms its commitment to contributing to an adequate collective response for a sustainable future," he stated.

According to him, the country is committed to developing renewable energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels, promoting a fair energy transition that directly benefits the population.

"We believe that the decisions made here in Baku will demonstrate our collective awareness of the serious dangers threatening the planet, as well as our shared determination to make dynamic commitments in favor of climate justice, international solidarity, and sustainable development. It is our duty to express our will, unite our forces and resources to preserve our planet and build a safer and fairer world," he concluded.
