Lithuania plans to strengthen borders with Belarus and Russia

Lithuania's Defense Minister, Laurinas Kasciunas, has agreed with Agne Bilotaite, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to bolster the country's borders.

They have urged for the swift provision of heavy weaponry to border guards and the establishment of fortification systems, SIA reports with reference to foreign media.

It is anticipated that border guards and Ministry of Internal Affairs units will be equipped with heavy machine guns.

Kasciunas emphasizes the need for border reinforcement by the end of summer.

Furthermore, to implement counter-mobility measures in late summer and early autumn, more energy is required. Considerations include concrete barriers, "dragon's teeth," and "Spanish horses." Funds have been allocated for this purpose, with an emphasis on expediting procedures.

"Delfi" cites the minister on these matters.

The Lithuanian government is also planning to establish a network of shooting ranges accessible to the public in the country. Discussions between defense and internal affairs ministers also focused on enhancing cooperation between agencies regarding border protection.
