Ex-Crimean Culture Minister, imprisoned for Bribery, joins Military Operation

Vera (Arina) Novoselskaya, the former Minister of Culture of Crimea who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for bribery, has decided to participate in the special military operation.

SIA reports citing Arslan Khasavov, a member of the Moscow Public Monitoring Committee of the RIA Novosti.

According to the commission member's words, the ex-minister has already applied to serve in the combat zone in Ukraine.

A day earlier, Khasavov met with Novoselskaya in one of the capital's pre-trial detention centers. At the same time, the defense lawyer stated that the former official had submitted an application three months ago.

Last July, the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow sentenced Novoselskaya to 10 years in prison for receiving a large sum of 25 million rubles as a bribe. According to investigators, the former minister received money "for general patronage" in connection with the construction of the Crimea State Children's Theater Art Center, against the background of work related to the construction of the "Meander" company in St. Petersburg.
