The officials of the Badakhshan Province have revealed that the joint border crossings between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, once closed in response to the spread of the Corona Virus, have now been reopened.
After the radical "Taliban" movement came to power in Afghanistan, the new leadership of the country was not recognized in Dushanbe.
Since then, border and cross-border markets have been closed.
On September 2, the Facebook pages of the authorities in Afghanistan and Tajikistan announced that markets would reopen.
This move reinstates four shared markets in Ashkashim, Shaghnan, Nesi and Pekin districts, indicating a step towards a resurgent era of trade and commerce, SIA reports with reference to foreign media.
Based on an official newsletter published by Moazuddin Ahmadi, the head of information and culture of Badakhshan Province, the markets will now allow traders to display and sell their goods. All sorts of products, with the exception of alcoholic and intoxicating beverages, can be sold in these reopened bazaars.
This move is not only expected to resurrect the suspended trading activities but will also provide an opportunity for local citizens to buy from these bazaars, thereby stimulating the economy and reinstating normalcy.
