Over 11 million people to vote in presidential elections in Türkiye

Türkiye is heading to the polls, with more than 64 million eligible voters casting their ballots to elect a president and parliament for a five-year term.

Polls have increasingly shown Erdoğan’s competitor for the presidency Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the lead, with both candidates racing to get more than 50% of the vote in order to avoid a runoff vote in two weeks’ time.

A weighted poll of all Turkish election polls, 600 Vekil, predicted a 63% chance of a Kılıçdaroğlu victory. The same polls have increasingly suggested that Erdoğan’s governing coalition, led by his Justice and Development party (AKP), could lose its majority in parliament.

Turkish citizens living in foreign countries have participated in voting from April 27 to May 9.

Out of 60,697,843 voters living in Türkiye, 30,710,790 - 50.60% are female, while the number of male voters is 29,987,53 - 49.40%.

The number of Turkish citizens living abroad is more than 6.5 million. In total, 3,416,98 Turkish citizens living in foreign countries have the right to vote. 1,595,158 of these voters are female voters, which is equal to 46.70% of the number of voters abroad, while the number of male voters is 1,820,940, which is 53.30%.

Voting was held in 73 countries and 156 diplomatic constituencies.
