Media: Iranian drones attack Ukraine's infrastructure with Armenia's assistance
The drones used by Russia to attack the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, which leaves not only Ukraine but also Moldova without light and heat, are imported into the Russian Federation from Iran with the assistance of Armenia, Ukrainian media said, SİA informs via IPN.
According to the Telegraf, the US has repeatedly warned Armenia about the consequences of its close military relations with Iran and Russia. In particular, during the visit of the head of the CIA to Armenia in the summer of 2022, Armenia was cautioned about how such a military alliance could end, but Yerevan ignored it.
Armenia is actively helping Russia to circumvent international sanctions, and not only in the import of civilian goods, notes the Moldavian Timpul.md, adding that "Armenia plays an important role as a logistics center and aids military-technical supply for Moscow." In addition, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, there is also a strengthening of the military partnership between Armenia and Russia.
“Although Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reaffirmed Armenia’s adherence to Western values in Berlin in March 2023, some of his country’s actions and strategic positioning rather indicate a rapprochement with Russia, which could result in international sanctions ... Iran’s entry into the arena of conflict in Ukraine as Russia's ally did not come as a surprise to public opinion, given Tehran's hostility to the West and its values. Surprising, however, is Iran's closeness to Armenia since the beginning of the war in Ukraine," notes Timpul.md.
As for Armenia's cooperation with Iran, Armenia has repeatedly stated its desire to expand it. In addition to the memorandum on energy, which was signed on November 1, and a sharp increase in trade in 2022 (in 2022, exports from Armenia to Iran amounted to $111.2 million, which is 70% more than the previous year; Iranian imports to Armenia amounted to $599, 7 million - an increase of 37%), there is a strengthening of military cooperation.
"On October 30, 2022, the Armenian Defense Ministry admitted that Iran supplied attack drones, and in the same month, the Iranians donated 600 missiles to the Armenians," the outlet noted.
