American woman detained in Russia after walking calf on Red Square

A U.S. woman was detained and fined by a Russian court on Wednesday for walking a calf on Moscow's Red Square that she said she had bought to save from slaughter, SIA refers to Russian state media.

According to Russian press, Alicia Day, 34, was fined 20,000 roubles for obstructing pedestrians in an unauthorized protest and sentenced to 13 days of "administrative arrest" on a separate charge of disobeying police orders.

The Russian court has imposed a 40-year entry ban on the Chinese-American animal rights activist after she was jailed.

"I bought the calf so that it wouldn't be eaten," she was quoted saying.

Day explained that she had got a driver to bring the calf to Red Square by car. "I wanted to show it a beautiful place in our beautiful country," she said.

“I’ll try to appeal the decision that won’t let me return to Russia for 40 years, my cows will die before that,” Day wrote on her Facebook page.
