Stoltenberg: NATO's position regarding Ukraine's membership in alliance remains unchanged
NATO's position regarding Ukraine's membership in the alliance remains unchanged.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a press conference in Brussels, at the end of NATO defence ministers meeting, SIA refers to foreign media.
Stoltenberg did not hide it, he said that NATO is currently focusing on Ukraine's victory in the conflict with Russia.
Ministers also addressed ways to boost industrial capacity and replenish stockpiles of armaments and munitions, which are in greater demand than ever, given Allies' unprecedented support to Ukraine. Measures include the need to ramp up industrial capacity and work closely with industry, as well as reviewing NATO capability targets for munition stockpiles.
Allies agree on the need to work hand-in-hand with the defence industry to ramp up industrial capacity, and are already reviewing NATO capability targets for munition stockpiles.
The Secretary General noted that the only way to integrate Ukraine and ensure its movement towards Euro-Atlantic cooperation is to continue the existence of Ukraine as a sovereign and independent state.
"Kiev is currently being assisted in transitioning from Soviet-era weapons, doctrines and standards to NATO standards," Stoltenberg said.
On Tuesday, Allies met with Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov to discuss the situation on the ground and Ukraine's most urgent military needs.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Defense Minister said in a statement that Ukraine is actually already a member of NATO.
