Russian national team will not enter Euro 2024 qualifying draw

The Russian Football Union (RFI) has announced that the Russian national football team will not participate in the draw ceremony of the qualifying round of Euro-2024.

The reason is UEFA's decision in February to stop the participation of Russian teams and clubs in competitions held under the auspices of the organization.

UEFA's decision was challenged by the RFU at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, which rejected the appeal in July. Currently, the Union is waiting for the full text of the CAS decision, based on its results, a decision will be made on further steps in the framework of legal protection.

This was reported by the press service of the Russian Football Union, SIA refers to Russian media.

The draw ceremony of the Euro-2024 qualifying round will be held on October 9 in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). The European Championship itself will be held from June 14 to July 14, 2024. 24 teams will participate in the tournament.

Earlier, UEFA suspended the participation of the Russian national team in the play-offs of the WC-2022. In addition, Russian clubs were banned from participating in the European Cups in the 2022/2023 season.
