Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestlers win 3 more medals at the World Championship

The World Wrestling Championship continues in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.

Azerbaijani wrestler Taleh Mammadov (63 kg) won a determined victory over Latvian Aleksandr Yurkyans in the quarterfinals - 7:3.

The experienced wrestler defeated the last Olympic champion, Cuban Luis Alberto Sanchez in the quarter-finals - 3:1. Mammadov lost to Serbian Sebastian Nada (0:5) in the semi-finals. In the fight for the bronze medal, our athlete beat Armenia's Gracia Pogosyan with a score of 10:4 and became the third in the World Championship.

Hasrat Jafarov, a member of Azerbaijani national team, called off the first stage without wrestling. Since Mexican Diego Martinez was injured before the competition, our compatriot directly advanced to the quarterfinals. Jafarov didn't give Japanese Katsuaki Endo any chance at this stage - 9:0. Our young wrestler won against the Chinese Husiyetu Husiyetu in the quarter-finals - 7:0. The wrestler faced the European champion and the third in the world Mate Nemeş in one step of the final. Jafarov lost to his Serbian opponent with a score of 2:5. A member of our team fought with Turkish athlete Murat Fırat for the bronze medal. Jafarov, who defeated his opponent with a score of 8:2, won the bronze medal.

Arif Niftullayev (97 kg) won 3:2 against the bronze medalist of the last European Championship Daniel Gast (Austria) in his debut. Niftullayev defeated Lithuanian Vilius Laurjnaitis in the quarter-final - 8:0. Azerbaijani wrestler then defeated Hungarian Alex Soke with full advantage (10:2) and entered the semi-finals. Our countryman met Kiril Milov from Bulgaria in one step of the final. Although Niftullayev finished the first half with a 3:0 lead, he missed the initiative in the second half. Azerbaijani athlete, who lost to the European champion and world runner-up by a "touche", faced the Italian Nikolos Kakelashvili for the bronze medal and beat his strong opponent 2:1 and became the third in the World Championship.

Earlier Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestlers - Eldeniz Azizli (55 kg) won a gold medal, and Ulvi Ganizade (72 kg) won a silver medal.
