An opening ceremony of the U23 European Championships has today been held at the Baku Sports Palace in Baku. Addressing the ceremony, Vice-President of Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, member of the Executive Committee of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Namig Aliyev welcomed the hosting of such a competition in Azerbaijan.
Namig Aliyev recalled the triumphs of Azerbaijani athletes, who booked a spot for the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games in the classification tournaments held in Baku and Istanbul.
Karl-Martin Dittmann, Bureau Member & President of the UWW European Council, expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan for hosting the landmark competition.
The event continued with a concert program.
The championships, to welcome about 400 athletes from 32 countries, will run until May 24.
