Former AC Milan star Andriy Shevchenko elected Ukrainian football body president

Andriy Shevchenko, a former AC Milan star, was elected as the Ukrainian football body's new president on Thursday, according to Anadolu Agency. The Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) in a statement said Shevchenko was unanimously elected for the presidential seat after receiving 93 votes. He will serve for five years.

A Milan regular, Shevchenko was one of the greatest players of his generation and won the 2003 UEFA Champions League title with the Italian giants.

He scored 175 goals in 322 matches for Milan and also won the prestigious Ballon d'Or trophy in 2004.

A pure Dynamo Kyiv product, he won local titles with Italy's Milan and Ukraine's Dynamo Kyiv. He also played for English Premier League club Chelsea.

The 47-year-old is still Ukraine's all-time top scorer with 48 goals in 111 international appearances from 1995 to 2012.
