Members of Athletes' Commission met with athletes

The deputy chairman of the commission, Farida Azizova (taekwondo), met with athletes and informed the participants about the work done this year. The Chairman also talked about the results of the project called "Heirs of Heroes" implemented by the Athletes' Commission in order to attract the children of veterans and martyrs who are interested in sports, the press service of the National Olympic Committee told SIA.

According to her, 17 of the 34 children involved in the project are actively involved in sports. Other children have withdrawn from the project due to academic studies. Azizova said that they will continue the project with more children and teenagers in the coming years.

Athletes who took part in the meeting were Rafik Huseynov, an Olympic prize-winner in Greco-Roman wrestling, Milad Beigi Harchegani, a two-time world champion in taekwondo among adults, and Eduard Mammadov, a well-known kickboxer of Azerbaijan, nicknamed the "White Wolf" and a multiple European and world champion. The athletes brought up issues that concerned them to the attention of the commission members. The Commision decided the sportsmen will be informed about any activity related to the current applications.

A new member of the commission, rhythmic gymnast Zohra Aghamirova also participated in the meeting. The chairman of the commission is Rustam Orujov (judo), the vice-chairman is Farida Azizova (taekwondo), and the members are Zohra Aghamirova (artistic gymnast), Kamran Shahsuvarli (boxing), Nazim Babayev (athletics), Rasul Chunayev (Greek-Roman wrestling), Fatima Alkaramova (swimming).

The Athletes' Commission plays a coordinating role between athletes and the International Olympic Committee and is of great importance in terms of implementing public projects to support Olympians who have completed their careers with high achievements.
