"The act of vandalism committed against our embassy must be strongly condemned" - MP comments

On August 4, 2022, the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland was attacked by a group of radical religious groups. The members of the group, who entered the building of our embassy and committed an act of vandalism, raised religious flags on the balcony of the building and shouted radical religious slogans. After the intervention of the local police, the members of the group were taken out of the building and detained.

I strongly condemn the actions of the people involved in this incident and reiterate that Great Britain is committed to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which was adopted on April 18, 1961, and to which our country joined on July 21, 1992.

At the same time, the mistake made against the flag of Azerbaijan, as well as the anxiety felt by the employees of our embassy during the incident, is unacceptable. I think that the criminal case opened by the UK government will soon provide a legal assessment of the matter, and the institutions responsible for the incident will not delay their statements about their obligations.
