International Observers Express Satisfaction with Parliamentary Elections' Preparations
Azerbaijan is gearing up for its first parliamentary elections since reclaiming its territories, including Karabakh. The elections, set for September 1, 2024, are seen as a significant step in the country's democratic development. These elections follow the high voter turnout during the presidential elections in February 2023, which were held across all liberated areas, including Shusha and Xankendi.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) has emphasized its commitment to ensuring a transparent and fair process, with both local and international observers closely monitoring the preparations. The upcoming elections will mark the first time voting takes place in all of Azerbaijan's sovereign territories.
Məzahir Pənahov, the CEC chairman, highlighted the importance of these elections in solidifying Azerbaijan's sovereignty and strengthening the country's political stability. The elections are also expected to play a crucial role in shaping Azerbaijan's legislative agenda, particularly concerning the development of Karabakh and strengthening ties within the Turkic world.
Prominent political analysts and experts, including Kyrgyz political analyst Mederbek Korganbayev, have noted the elections' importance in reinforcing Azerbaijan's growing influence in the Central Asian and Eurasian regions. The new parliament is expected to focus on key legislative initiatives that will support Azerbaijan's national interests and bolster regional cooperation.
As Azerbaijan continues to prioritize democratic values, the upcoming parliamentary elections are anticipated to be a defining moment in the country's political history.
