Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis condemns European Parliament's annual report

The Milli Mejlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly condemns and opposes the biased, one-sided, neglectful, and indifferent views in terms of the concepts of international law and justice reflected in the annual report adopted by the European Parliament (EP) on "Implementation of the Common Security and Defense Policy" on February 28, APA reports.

Azerbaijani Parliament noted for many years, the European structures, especially the European Parliament, have consistently refused to give a political and legal assessment of the severe consequences of the 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia, the vandalism committed, and the Khojaly genocide, in terms of the selective and double standards-based approach of these circles.

Under the leadership of the President, Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the attitude shown to Azerbaijan, freeing its lands from occupation at the expense of great sacrifices and fulfilling the norms and principles of international law on its own, was no different from the previous ones.

However, it seems that the European Parliament intends to continue its determination to win "new achievements" in its hypocritical and hypocritical approach to the events taking place in the South Caucasus region. European politicians who are guided by populism and demagoguery, who are trying to gain political capital by circulating documents and statements that do not serve peace and stability, insist on confidently playing the role of "tool" intended for them by certain circles.

Several points reflected in the annual report of the European Parliament give reason to say just that. When we look at those points that are identical to the official statements of Armenia, it becomes clear that this document was prepared under the influence and dictate of the Armenian lobby.

The mentioned document also shows that Azerbaijan-phobic and Islamophobic thinking, chauvinist, and racist ideologies are getting stronger and stronger in the European Parliament. The European Parliament is in open competition with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in the matter of consistently and continuously demonstrating these harmful trends.

It was pointed out that this report of the European Parliament not only distorts the current realities in the South Caucasus region but also has a rather dangerous nature in terms of the ongoing processes.

It is the efforts made by Azerbaijan in the direction of establishing long-term peace and stability in the region after the 44-day Patriotic War, the political-military provocations of Armenia that hit the peace process during the past period, and the tensions created on the conditional border, for some reason, are deliberately ignored by the European Parliament.

On the other hand, this resolution, which was adopted at a time when the peace talks were ongoing in Germany, and the absurd claims raised, raised serious questions: Is Europe interested in establishing peace in the South Caucasus? Is the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan less important than the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia for the European parliamentarians who call for taking decisive steps against Azerbaijan and imposing sanctions?

The opinions contained in the report about the necessity of arming Armenia reflect the intention to intensify the situation in the region and obstruct the peace process.

It seems that the European Parliament has already clearly adopted France's anti-Azerbaijani policy and has chosen the thoughts of "politicians" like Macron and Borrel, which serve specific purposes, as its political line. They don't hesitate to mask these thoughts with the efforts of peace, security, and democracy.

The European Parliament should understand that, like the previous resolutions, this document has no significance for Azerbaijan. The territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan cannot be questioned by anyone. Nobody can put pressure on Azerbaijan.

Under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, our country has already entered a new era. For strong and determined Azerbaijan, which has restored its territories freed from occupation and returned internally displaced persons to their native lands, this period also includes cooperation and partnership based on peace, justice, honesty, and sincerity at the international level. The "principles" guided by the European Parliament are unequivocally rejected.

The Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan categorically condemns the intention of the European Parliament to attack the efforts made in the direction of ensuring peace and stability in the region, and recommends to deal with serious and urgent issues that concern Europe, not with such petty provocations," the statement said.
