The construction of the Horadiz-Jabrayil-Zengilan-Aghband highway (Zangezur Corridor), which was founded by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with a length of 123.6 kilometers, is being rapidly continued. SIA informs that the highway was designed starting from the village of Ahmadbeyli in Fuzuli and is being built according to international highway standards as technical 1st grade.
The first 77.5 km section of the road has 6 lanes, and the remaining 46.1 km section has 4 lanes. The width of the road bed corresponding to the traffic lanes is 29.5 and 21.5 meters, respectively.
The percentage of total completion of works on the project is 57%:
- 166 out of 265 round pipes have already been built, work is ongoing on 39;
- 18 out of 42 rectangular pipes have been built, work is ongoing on 9;
- 19 out of 56 underpasses have been built, work is ongoing on 25;
- The construction of 28 of the 63 service pipes intended for spare passages has been completed, work is ongoing on 11;
- 19 out of 23 bridges are currently under construction.
At the moment, road surface construction works are being carried out on the 0-22, 44-48 km sections of the highway. On the 25.9-115 km section, excavation, filling and construction of artificial facilities are being continued.
Along the road, the construction of 3 car tunnels with a total length of 6 km and tentatively named T1, T2 and T3 is underway. The completion of works on tunnels is 37%.
Excavation and concrete spraying of the T1 tunnel with an average length of 1020 meters have been completed. Belt concrete (40 cm) works on the left direction of the 1007-meter-long T1 tunnel were completed at a distance of 550 meters, belt concrete (40 cm) works on the right direction of the 1033-meter long T1 tunnel were completed at a distance of 444 meters.
Excavation and concrete spraying works have been completed for a total of 985.5 meters on the left side of the T2 tunnel with an average length of 1822 meters, and a total of 1166.35 meters on the right side.
Excavation and spraying concrete works have been completed for 1398 meters on the left side and 1433 meters on the right side of the T3 tunnel with an average length of 3170 meters.
According to the requirements of the "Construction Norms and Rules", the construction works under the supervision of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Highways are planned to be completed in 2024.
The Horadiz-Jabrayil-Zengilan-Aghband highway, being a part of the Hajigabul-Horadiz-Aghband-Zangezur highway, is of great importance in terms of connecting other regions of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
