"The role of Russia in the economic life of Azerbaijan is quite big. In addition, the special place of Russia in the foreign trade turnover is in the top three compared to other countries." Economist-expert Eldeniz Amirov said in his statement to SIA.
According to him, we can see this in both imports and exports: "Especially in imports, Russia comes first. This trend has been repeated for many years. That is, Russian imports have a hegemonic position in Azerbaijan. In exports, it is in third place. Which is a proof of Russia's rank in trade with Azerbaijan. This shows its place in the turnover. For the last 5-6 years, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia has been around 3 billion dollars.
During the pandemic, for every $100 in trade turnover, we exported about $33 and imported $66. At present, tomato is the leading non-oil and agricultural export product of Azerbaijan. The sharp increase in tomato exports is due to Russia. I think that Azerbaijan should definitely try to enter alternative markets. For this, first of all, we should increase the profitability and quality indicators of the product."
