On June 17, Rovshan Rzayev, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Individuals, Varalakshimi Vemuru, Experience Manager of the World Bank's Global Social Sustainability and Inclusion Activities for Europe and Central Asia, Eric Johnson, Sofia Georgieva, Senior Social Development Specialists met with Sarah Michael, Regional Director for Azerbaijan, and Sabina Majidova, Program Assistant.
According to SIA, information was provided on the line of social development implemented in the country under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, including the state policy on work with IDPs. It was noted that important work has been done to improve the living conditions of this category of citizens, strengthen social protection and increase their employment. It was noted that First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva paid special attention and care to solving the social problems of IDPs.
The support of international organizations in solving the problems of refugees and internally displaced individuals in our country was noted with satisfaction, as well as the importance of cooperation with the World Bank was noted. They expressed confidence that the expansion of cooperation between the Government of Azerbaijan and the World Bank will also contribute to the successful return to the liberated territories. It was noted that the World Bank's grant project "Research, Analysis and Capacity Building for Reconstruction and Peacebuilding in Azerbaijan" implemented in cooperation with the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Individuals of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development will have a very positive effect on capacity building for IDPs who will return to their homes in the near future.
Representatives of the World Bank thanked for the cordial meeting and detailed information, expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with our country, praised the work done on the return of IDPs to the liberated territories, and said that their international financial institution will increase the support for this process.
Issues of mutual interest were discussed, and questions of the guests were answered at the meeting.
