President lays foundation of new wind power plant, credits its significance

"Today is a very significant day in the life of our country. Today, the foundation of a new wind power plant to be built in Azerbaijan is being laid at the Gulustan Palace. I heartily congratulate you and all the people of Azerbaijan on this occasion," President Ilham Aliyev said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the 240-megawatt Khizi-Absheron wind farm, to be built in Azerbaijan by ACWA Power of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia held at the Gulustan Palace.

"This is a wonderful event. This station will contribute to ensuring Azerbaijan’s energy security. The construction of this station once again shows that the Azerbaijani state attaches great importance to the production of renewable energy. About a year ago, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy and Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power signed an executive agreement. In fact, a decision has been made to build the plant, and we are celebrating this beautiful day together after active work over the past year.

This plant will be the largest power plant in the renewable energy sector in Azerbaijan. Its capacity will be 240 megawatts and, of course, as I said, will contribute to the energy security of our country, as well as create many jobs. Also, our plans to save natural gas will be resolved. This plant will naturally be of great importance in reducing the negative impact on the environment," the president said.
