Zangazur corridor to increase cargo transportation through Azerbaijan

The opening of the Zangazur corridor will allow Azerbaijan to increase cargo transportation through the country in the direction of Turkey-Central Asia (including Afghanistan) by heavy trucks, said Khudayar Hasanli, the head of the Strategic Planning and Development Department of the Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC.

According to him, at present, the annual volume of transportation by heavy trucks in the direction of Turkey-Central Asia is about 120 000, of which only 20% (20-25 thousand) is carried out through the territory of Azerbaijan.

According to Kh. Hasanli, the goal for Azerbaijan is to reach this figure to 40-50% or about 60 thousand.

He added that the opening of the Zangazur corridor will not only accelerate transportation but also make it cheaper. Reducing fuel costs and the absence of border crossings within the framework of the corridor will allow this.
