Another 4 HPPs to be launched in Azerbaijan’s Kalbajar this year

AzerEnergy OJSC is carrying out complex work in the liberated Kalbajar district, as well as in many areas, in order to accelerate the transition to green energy, reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere, conserve natural gas, and produce ecologically clean energy. Thus, currently, four hydroelectric power plants are under construction within the Kalbajar district’s boundaries, SİA informs, referring to the OJSC.

The commissioning of the Zar (4.3 MW), Nadirkhanli (8.8 MW), Ashagi Vang (8.6 MW), and Yukhari Vang (22.5 MW) hydropower plants is scheduled for 2024.

During 2020-2023, Kalbajar-1, Meydan, Gamishli, Chirag-1, Chirag-2, and Soyugbulag small hydropower plants with a total capacity of 32 megawatts were reconstructed and installed in Kalbajar district by AzerEnergy OJSC and put into operation with the participation of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. In accordance with the settlement policy, more than 20 residents of Kalbajar district have been provided permanent jobs at these stations.

As of now, 6 small hydropower stations put into operation have produced nearly 70 million KWh of ecologically clean green energy.

AzerEnergy OJSC drew attention to the fact that it officially applied to the Global Carbon Council organization located in Qatar for the purchase of carbon certificates for small hydroelectric power plants in Kalbajar, and a positive opinion was given to move to the next stage of the registration procedure of plants. This initiative will successively cover other hydroelectric power plants, and for the first time in the history of Azerbaijan, the provision of carbon certificates for renewable power plants will be related to the energy facilities in the liberated territories.
