Woman becomes head of Turkish Central Bank for first time

Hafize Gaye Erkan has been appointed Governor of the Turkish Central Bank, SİA informs.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a corresponding decree.

For the first time, a woman became the chairperson of the Turkish Central Bank.

Erkan, born in 1982, graduated with honors from Bogazici University in 2001, and then defended her doctoral dissertation in financial engineering from Princeton University in the US and received additional financial education from Harvard and Stanford Universities. She worked at Goldman Sachs investment bank, was a member of the board of First Republic Bank.
