Erdogan: Türkiye realized 60-year dream of transitioning to green energy
Despite obstacles and smear campaigns, Türkiye managed to realize its 60-year dream of implementing green energy technologies that developed countries have been using for many years. The delivery of nuclear fuel to the Akkuyu NPP is an example of this, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Twitter, SİA informs.
He emphasized that as early as 1956, Türkiye was planning the transition to nuclear energy: “However, like other steps toward development, this also failed due to the May 27 coup. In the late 1970s, the joint construction project of the NPP with a European country was unfortunately failed because Türkiye could not afford $100 million. In 2010, we eliminated this failure by signing an agreement on it.”
The Turkish leader noted that the Akkuyu NPP will produce 35 billion kilowatt hours of electricity per year and provide 10% of the country's electricity consumption.
