Azerbaijan, EBRD delegation discuss renewable energy projects

Deputy Minister of Energy Samir Valiyev met with the delegation led by the regional director for the Caucasus of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Katarina Bjorlin Hansen.

During the meeting, current cooperation and future prospects were discussed between Azerbaijan and the EBRD in the direction of the development of electric energy, renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The implementation status of the projects implemented jointly with the bank, the development of the low-carbon electric energy sector, the work done on small-scale renewable energy projects were reviewed by the sides, and information was exchanged on the draft documents prepared within the framework of the "Support project for conducting auctions on renewable energy sources in the Republic of Azerbaijan".

The meeting also discussed the measures taken in the direction of turning the territories freed from occupation into "green energy" zones, creating a "zero emission" zone in these territories by 2050, as well as implementing offshore wind energy projects. Which was then continued by discussions about the potential energy projects to be implemented in the field of renewable energy.

The sides also exchanged views on the Memorandum of Understanding on technical support for the development of Azerbaijan's electric power sector, which is expected to be signed between the Ministry of Energy and the EBRD.

An agreement was reached on the signing of the document in the near future.
