Oscar Pistorius will be released on parole and moved to house arrest on October 20, about a year after he was sentenced to five years for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, South Africa's Department of Corrections said Thursday.
The department said a parole board made the decision after an initial bid to release the double-amputee runner in August was cancelled.
The Olympic runner has served nearly a year of his five-year sentence for manslaughter for killing model and law graduate Steenkamp.
He will be moved to correctional supervision, a form of house arrest where he will have to live under certain conditions.
