Hundreds of people have rallied in the city of Lahore in eastern Pakistan to condemn US drone strikes in the tribal northwest of the country.
The event was staged by the Defence of Pakistan Council, an alliance of 40 religious and right-wing political parties. Protesters demand the US end the drone strikes, and call for a block on NATO supply lines.
The land route through Pakistan is used for getting supplies to NATO troops in Afghanistan. Pakistan has regularly criticized the US drone strikes as a violation of the country’s sovereignty and says they kill too many civilians.
