Pro-Morsi sit-ins to be dispersed soon

Egyptian Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim said sit-in staged by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi in Cairo and Giza would be dispersed soon "within the law."

"The residents of Rabaa al-Adawiya and Nahda have filed legal complaints against the protesters and the sit-ins would be dispersed soon within the law," the minister told a local TV channel late Friday.

"The sit-ins would do no good because Egypt would never turn back."

The powerful army removed Morsi, Egypt's first democratically elected president, on July 3 following mass protests against him.

It suspended the constitution and installed Adly Mansour, the head of the constitutional court, as interim president.

Ever since, Morsi supporters have been staging daily mass demonstrations and sit-ins protesting the military coup against the elected president and demanding his reinstatement.

The two biggest sit-ins are staged in Rabaa al-Adawiya Square in eastern Cairo and Nahda Square in Giza.

They have been continuing for 29 and 25 days, respectively.

Mansour has urged Morsi supporters in Rabaa al-Adawiya and Nahda to go home.

"We respect your viewpoint, but we have taken decisions and we have moved forward. There is no turning back," he said in his first media statements since assuming office.

"If you come to the conclusion that you have a lost case, leave the squares and go to your home and your jobs. No one will go after you. I give you my word."
