Morsi is no longer president

Millions explode with joy on streets as Egyptian army seizes power in people's coup following protests

Celebrations took place across Egypt last night after the military chief said President Mohammed Morsi had been ousted from power, SIA reports citing Egyptian press.

The head of Egypt's armed forces issued a declaration suspending the constitution and appointing the head of the constitutional court as interim head of state.

In a televised broadcast, flanked by military leaders, religious authorities and political figures, General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi effectively declared the removal of the elected Islamist.

As many as 14 people were killed when opponents and supporters of Egypt's deposed president clashed following the announcement.

The president's aide has said the Egyptian leader Morsi has been moved to an undisclosed location, believed to be a military base.
