Citizens demand election conduction in Armenia

A number of citizens conducted a protest rally in front of Armenia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) demanding creation of atmosphere for conduction of elections in Armenia and suspension of the activity of OSCE observers.

The demonstrators claimed that if the observers stay in Armenia they will again approve the rigged elections.

Anna Shahnazaryan, one of the organizers, said the elections cannot be fair as far as the so-called ruling party is participating in them.

"As far as the Republican party is participating in the elections these elections are condemned to be rigged. We express our position to the CEC for another time," Anna Shahnazaryan said.

Member of the Free Democrats party Karapet Rubinyan who came to support the demonstrators said both the complaint and demands of the protestors are appropriate as there is no sign that the authorities will act in another way.

The participants moved to the residence of the OSCE observers on Baghramyan avenue to hand them 15 letters addressed to the OSCE member-states’ ambassadors for them to urge their governments to recall their observers from Armenia.
