This was stated by the senior fellow for economic analysis and issues of globalization of the Centre for Strategic Studies (SAM), Zaur Valiyev, at a presentation of report "Analysis of the Armenian economy".

"According to demographic data, the natural growth is reducing in Armenia. During 11 months of 2012, 71,374 people left the country. Over the last three years, 160,000 people left Armenia, which is 5% of the population," said Valiyev.

According to him, official statistics show that the level of poverty in Armenia is 35%.

"This means that 1.2m Armenians are living below the poverty line. According to the IMF, in the event of termination of foreign aid, the level of poverty in Armenia will exceed 50%," said the SAM analyst.

According to him, the official statistics show that 27.5% of the population of Yerevan lives below the poverty line.

"In seven of the ten regions of Armenia, poverty level exceeds the bar at 30%. In two Armenian regions (Lori and Shirak), poverty level is above 45%. 18-19% of the population of Armenia, including 45% of young people was registered as unemployed. This means that one in five able-bodied citizens of Armenia is unemployed," he said.
