A far-right German group has vowed to screen a US-made anti-Islam film in the capital, Berlin, amid massive anti-US demonstrations across the Muslim world.
The Pro Deutschland (Pro Germany) group, run by a former neo-Nazi, announced that it would screen the full-length version of the provocative movie in a cinema in a Muslim neighborhood in Berlin.
The provocative announcement has placed German authorities and Muslim groups in dilemma, with some officials vowing to spare no efforts to ban the film from screening.
Meanwhile, German Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich termed the screening a "political action," which he said would only fan the flames of wrath among Muslims. The banning, however, does not violate freedom of expression, Friedrich said.
Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel signaled willingness to the banning, arguing that she could see "good reasons" to forbid the show.
