"On April 26, when President Ilham Aliyev lit a fire of the Games in Ateshgah, I promised the head of state that on June 26, on the Azerbaijani Armed Forces Day I will win a medal. Azerbaijan’s President and chair of Baku European Games Operations Committee stressed that they are waiting for only gold medal from me." added Azerbaijani gold medallist.
According to Ilham Zekiyev, on the awards ceremony when President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev presented medal to me I told: "Mr. President, the Supreme Commander, the soldier Zakiyev completed the combat mission and earned a medal"
"I have lost my sight during a defend of Azerbaijan’s lands. Today, I keep serving for my native land on by struggling on tatami. I will carry on this mission in future too. As you know I was torchbearer at the opening ceremony of the first European Games. I sincerely believe that a day will come when I carry the torch to Karabakh." Ilham Zekiyev stressed.
