Bulgarian gymnasts out to repeat World Cup showing
The country's Rhythmic stars look to improve on disappointing Euros performance

Mariya Mateva and Neviana Vladinova head to Baku 2015 keen to repeat their performance at the Tashkent World Cup in late May after a disappointing European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Minsk earlier in the month.

"We did an assessment and there were some slips that we corrected. The girls feel healthy and hope that Baku will be much better," Bulgarian coach Efrosina Angelova said, referring to the team's results from the European Championships.

No Bulgarians qualified for the final eight on an individual apparatus in Belarus, and the duo of Mateva and Vladinova finished a disappointing 10th place in the Team competition.

Both gymnasts bounced back in Tashkent, however, where Mateva finished fourth in the Hoop while Vladinova was fifth in the Clubs, sixth in the Ball and eighth in the All-Around two ahead of Mateva.

The results lead Angelova to be optimistic about Bulgaria's chances of success at Baku 2015.

"Both gymnasts have a chance to get into some of the finals. In All-Around, they have a chance to reach the top eight," Angelova said. "But for me, the most important thing is that the girls perform with confidence."

Mateva said Baku 2015 would certainly be different from Minsk. "We did not present ourselves as expected at the European Championships. So we want to make up for that and perform much better at the European Games," Mateva said.
