Malta's triathletes have performed well in their preparations for the Baku 2015 European Games.
Keith Galea and Hannah Pace both are still on highs after winning the recent Olympic distance triathlon race in Sicily Galea topped the overall men's standings while Pace picked up the women's crown in Trapani.
Galea expects to face a very strong field in Azerbaijan.
"I am expecting a very high standard of competition at Baku, in fact much higher than the Commonwealth Games," Galea told bkarastjoseph.com.
"After competing in the Commonwealth Games last year I am really looking forward to another participation in another event of such high standards and importance. I am also very happy and proud to be the first Maltese male triathlete ever to be on the starting line in these Games - it is like writing history for Triathlon Malta."
While Pace was given the nod as Malta's woman triathlete, triathlete Vella Wood will appear at Baku 2015 as a cyclist.
"Scared!! It's going to be tough - but exciting. I'm really proud and happy to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent my country," Wood told bkarastjoseph.com.
Wood was asked to compete in Azerbaijan on the bicycle after finishing the Tour ta' Malta third overall and as the first Maltese female. That forced Wood to change her training plans.
"Triathlon will have to take a back seat temporarily as I will be totally focused on cycling . Once Baku is done and dusted, I will immediately shift to triathlon and make up for lost ground as soon as humanly possible."
