Austria’s NOC (OeCC) General Secretary Mr. Peter Mennel would like to see the Baku 2015 European Games and its future editions increase in importance, especially in regards to Olympic Games qualification.
"For the compact (11-member) OeCC team, the Baku 2015 European Games represent a major effort. We have enough European Championships already. But, just like the Asian or PanAmerican Games, the European Games could be established as the qualification opportunity for the next Olympic Games," Mr. Mennel said in an interview with the Austrian magazine SportWoche.
Eleven of the 20 sports at Baku 2015 offer qualification opportunities for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
