Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences finally could set up a public relations system over its all institutions as the very beginning of building up science journalism in the Caspian Sea country SIA reports.
Involving more than 40 young reporters in ANAS from different universities and organizations, the Public Relations Department of the state’s science body lastly was able to communicate the academy to the domestic public in a year after it was created by an order of the Presidium in May 2013. At the meeting with all PR members of the academy, Said Huseynov, the head of the department followed the one-year history back to all efforts saying science communication and disseminating ANAS are just follow-up attempts related with some tasks in the National Strategy on Development of Science in 2009-2015 signed by President Ilham Aliyev. He mentioned the tasks with integration of the Azerbaijan science into the world system, communicating scientists with each other, as well as reaching outreaches to educational enterprises. "Disseminating both ANAS and science remained as duty on domestic mass media coming from these tasks", suggested Huseynov. The large network of the ANAS public relation members was developed with trainings on PR policy, settings and principles of the activity during the first-ever year of the system. Now the department head believes his large team are the most possible unit can be progressing into the birth of science journalism in Azerbaijan for the next some years. "Reporting about science and technologies and writing science-based stories on daily life experiences, you can act as journalists communicating people to science, as well as helping scientists reach out to other researchers in different parts of the Earth. Journalists wishing to work for public understanding of science need to have some trainings and seminars that ANAS plans to organize for them with projects, as well as story contests of excellence in science", -- Huseynov said. PR department of ANAS divulges general science and technology in the republic not only by media but also organizing a project called Cool Science that connects to school children even in remote villages where young scientists of the academy show amazing experiences for them. The target is to reach science to all regions of the state, as well as marginalized sides.
