48 Azerbaijani citizens evacuated from Egypt

The special plane sent by Azerbaijan for urgent evacuation of its citizens from Egypt has returned to Baku. The plane has landed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport this afternoon.

Advisor of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Egypt Rafael Baghirov told journalists that 48 Azerbaijani citizens were evacuated by the plane: "We were planning to evacuate 80 people. But some of them didn’t want to return. The Azerbaijani citizens, who remain in Egypt, are mainly those married to the citizens of that country."

Speaking about the situation in Egypt, Baghirov said that curfew was declared and the situation is strained: "Despite this, the embassy continues working. At present, the ambassador and one more diplomat are working in Cairo."

The passengers of the plane told journalists that the situation in the country became tense in 2011. According to them, at that time, clashes occurred only in certain places, but now everywhere is dangerous.

The evacuated people thanked the President for care and security measures.
