International terrorism in the environment of the genesis of "Multipolar world" geo-system

By the early XXI century, relinquished from 7 decades long confrontation of two irreconcilable ideologies – Western democracy and Eastern communism, the international community encountered equally perilous phenomena – awakening of international terrorism, a brain child of the "cold war" that gripped the entire world with its tentacles, jeopardizing the system of international relations established for last several decades, SIA reports citing News Times.

Cardinal changes in geopolitical and geo-economic structures of the international community happening in this century, accompanied by transformation of social-political systems in a number of countries of the world enables the conclusion that the world has entered quality-wise a new geopolitical phase, characterized by the genesis of new geo-system "Multipolar world" to replace the bipolar one. Along with consolidated Western world embodied by the most powerful military-political union of the present – NATO and the European Union, new geopolitical actors akin of China and Russia emerge, to a certain extent impacting world’s problems. Developments occur on the backdrop of intensification of modern globalization processes.

In the meantime, certain contours of upcoming "Huntington’s" clash of civilizations are becoming distinctive; its sinister signs are already manifested in acts of international terrorism and militant separatism. Moreover, events of the recent years in some countries of Europe vividly demonstrate the collapse of the idea of multiculturalism. As a whole, modern political map of the world resembles an extremely motley mosaic where world and regional powers adjoin smaller nations to a certain extent affected by global and intra-civilization problems.

Meanwhile, prospects of one superpower – the U.S. dominating global arena evoke adequate reaction with the international community and thus, the "multipolar world" concept is suggested as another option of the fate of the mankind. Furthermore, the world’s agenda includes yet another division of global influence between emerging new geopolitical centers. Nevertheless, no country or a geopolitical center can singlehandedly define and fully execute its geostrategic and geopolitical objectives on the international arena without considering diversity and peculiarities of major civilization commonwealths.

It is noteworthy that rise of the forces of international terrorism in this century is directly connected with the globalization processes engulfing the world in recent decades. Widening gap between the so-called "golden billion" and the "impoverished" one coupled with pauperization of the latter and the threat of collapse of traditional domestic social-political bonds and values only provokes new outbursts of militant separatism and terrorism.

Another important factor is that should the peaceful means of improving the welfare in non-Western world fail, major discouragement not only in the globalization but the entire world order may ensue. Ultimately, religious fundamentalism, unbridled nationalism and fascist racism, ethnic intolerance, establishment of centers of international terrorism and organized crime, economic inequality, demographic explosion, unchecked migration processes, environmental collisions and depletion of natural resources may lead to global chaos.

Moreover, even most prosperous and globalization-committed regions of the world are not insured from various manifestations of terrorism. It is sufficed to recall dramatic events of this decade in the U.S., UK, Spain, Norway, Russia, Turkey, and Pakistan and elsewhere, related with acts of violence perpetrated by both international networks and "homegrown" terrorists.
