On Tuesday, the Islamist Palestinian movement HAMAS handed over to Egypt the Israeli Army Corporal Gilad Shalit, held in captivity since 2006, to be subsequently handed over to Israel, reports the Al-Jazeera satellite TV channel with reference to sources in the HAMAS movement.
According to some mass media, Shalit has already been handed over to Israeli doctors for medical check-ups.
In keeping with the agreement that Israel signed with the Palestinian movement HAMAS on the 11th of this month, a total of 1,027 Palestinians will walk out of prison in Israel. Many of these were sentenced to life behind bars for terrorist activities.
