But it's the not the first time the royal has shunned her signature Chelsea blow dry in favour of a more daring 'do — she has previously experimented with braided buns, low chignons and even pearls.
Tuesday's event marked Kate's first appearance since announcing that she was pregnant with her second child. The striking brunette paired with ponytail with a grey Jane Taylor hat that matched her chic Alexander McQueen checked coatdress.
The royal, who is just over 12 weeks pregnant, was showing off a hint of a baby bump.
