Baku marks Azerbaijani Youth Day

Azerbaijan is celebrating the day of youth on Saturday, February 2, a date highlighting the important role young people play in the life of the young Azerbaijani state.

According to deputy chairman of the ruling Yeni (New) Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Ali Ahmedov, Azerbaijani youth will ensure a successful future for their country thanks to patriotism, activity, strength and power.

The Azerbaijani youth, numbering 2.8 million people, or around 30 percent of the country's total population of more than 9.3 million, constantly benefits from the government's support.

The first forum of Azerbaijani youth was held at the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in 1996.

The forum involved more than 2,000 representatives of youth organizations from all regions of the country. The forum defined the responsibilities facing the state bodies, youth organizations, every young person.

The main task, facing the relevant organizations, became effective measures on the comprehensive development of the youth and assistance to the soonest and effective resolution of youth problems.

The first youth forum promoted the intensification of the work, held with the youth in Azerbaijan. In 1997 the president of Azerbaijan signed a decree according to which 2 February was declared the Day of Azerbaijani Youth.

In recent years Azerbaijan adopted the Law on Youth Policy; the State Program on Youth of Azerbaijan was approved in 2005 and 2011.
